-BORO-
I have recently been buying vintage japanese fabrics for a small project I am working on,I have also started to buy some actual garments to look at the fabrics and how they have been applied and also how they have aged through wear. The above garment is (I think) a farm workers jacket from around the 1930’s maybe a little earlier or later. the fabric has been worn out and patched with scraps in a technique named ‘boro’ this produces these fantastic layered garments often many many layer thick in places with many different fabrics all with a fantastic indigo hue, the reason (I believe) for the use of every scrap of fabric was due to at the time cotton being very much a luxury so any scrap was utilised.I like this particular style as the arms are quite slim so it is possible to still wear this now as an overall. There is so much detail as you look over this garment so many stitches so many patches.
